WELCOME FROM THE CHAÎNE PRESIDENT
Dear members and friends
It will be a great honour and a great pleasure for me to participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Bailliage of Portugal in Lisbon.
Modern and vibrant, the City of Seven Hills, with its colourful buildings and fado music, is also one of the oldest European cities, full of historical treasures.
All this combines with strong culinary and hospitality traditions to make Lisbon a perfect venue for a great Chapitre of the Chaîne.
Paulo Amado, Bailli Délégué of Portugal, Anibal Soares, Member of the Conseil Magistral and Président d'Honneur of this 50 years celebration, together with the entire Bureau of Bailliage of Portugal and myself, are very much looking forward to welcoming you in Lisbon.
Vive la Chaîne!
Yam Atallah
President
WELCOME
To everyone who joins us from outside Portugal, and to our Portugal members, and to all those who in this Chapitre will become part of the Chaîne family, we wish you a warm welcome to Lisbon and to this celebration of 50 years of Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Portugal.
In Portugal we have 9 bailages who are committed to the development of projects of a different nature, because we are passionate about the gastronomy and the diversity that our country presents.
For almost 900 years the geography of mainland Portugal and the islands gives products of great specialty that artisans transform into excellence, providing chefs with memorable raw materials.
We are certain that your visit to our country will be remarkable. We built the program to let you taste our traditional and modern foods with your five senses awakened; the best complement to the comfort and hospitality that characterize us.
We hope that the celebrations go well and that you come back again to enjoy more of what Portugal has to offer.
A special thank you to all the members involved in this Chapitre: Chancelier Fátima Marcos; and all the baillis: Jean, Richard, Ana, Filipe, Ramalho, Dinis, Catarina, Pedro, Fernando, and our honorary president, Mr. Anibal Soares. Also, to the chefs, personified in Chef Luís Gaspar.
Vive La Chaine!
Paulo Amado
Bailli Délégué of Portugal
Commandeur
It all began in 1950 with a lunch between five friends, namely Curnonsky, Prince of Gastronomes and Jean Valby, the first president of the CDR, and so the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs was reborn.
About Portugal, I would like to highlight three interesting facts:
1 - If after 23 years (1973) we had the opportunity to welcome the founder of the international Chaîne at the first Portuguese Grand Chapitre, Yam Atallah will honour us by presiding over our 50th anniversary.
2 - Chance made the two mentioned founders, from 1950, to have been gastronomic writers and editors, as well as Paulo Amado, Bailli Délégué from Portugal, also exercises this professional activity. Undoubtedly a good omen for the future.
3 - The gastronomic evolution of the Chaîne in Portugal has been harmonious, as can easily be deduced and will be proven by the occasion of this next Grand Chapitre, in 2023.
It was my great pleasure to accept Paulo's invitation to be the president of honour for this important event. It is therefore with the greatest expectation that I await the national and international presence, of the many members who have already expressed a wish to join us.
We welcome you.
